Tattershall Castle

Tattershall Castle

Towering over the flat Lincolnshire fens, Tattershall Castle is a magnificent example of medieval architecture.

There has been a manor house at Tattershall since 1231, however, the castle you see today was commissioned by Lord Cromwell in 1434. As Cromwell was the Treasurer of England, he required a residence that reflected his wealth, position and power.

Built to impress, Tattershall Castle has some incredible architectural features, from winding staircases and vast chambers, to gothic fireplaces and stained glass windows. Outside, the beautiful grounds were also designed to make a statement, with a double moat, manicured lawns and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

Visit Tattershall today and you can learn more about the trials and tribulations faced by the castle and its former residents. Attacked, destroyed and very nearly demolished, this unique building harbours a fascinating history – some of which may surprise you!
