Getaway With Family and Friends
We’re very excited to be seeing a rise in getaway multi-generational holidays here at Elms Farm Cottages, being a place where you can bring the family together and there really is something for everyone is exactly what we set out to do.
All of our cottages offer level access, and so are accessible for wheelchairs, pushchairs, walking frames etc. plus some of them also accept dogs - so truly nobody needs to be left behind!
Whether you decide to all bunk in together in our largest cottage, or you still require a little bit of space and so reside separately - we’ve put together a list of our favorite family activities that we think, everyone will enjoy!
Days Out
Can you really say you’ve visited Lincolnshire if you haven’t seen the famous Lincoln Castle? Not only is it steeped in history that the older generations may love teaching the young ones - but there’s plenty for children to do, too. Complete the Medieval Wall Walk, view the Magna Carta and experience an actual Victorian Prison! Of course, at the top of Steep Hill you’re surrounded by restaurants to visit for lunch.
Top Tip: If anyone does struggle to walk, park in the NCP Steep Hill Car Park to save walking up the very appropriately named ‘Steep Hill’ itself.
Belvoir castle on the other side of the county has a brand-new Adventure Playground - the children can go wild! There’s also plenty of seating for adults to sit back and take in the surroundings whilst little legs tire themselves out. After burning off all of their energy you can stroll across the road to the famous Engine Yard, where there’s a restaurant for lunch but also plenty of artisan and independent shops.
You can also visit the Castle Grounds & Gardens if you want to make a real day of it. Belvoir Castle are great at holding events so check their website at www.belvoircastle.com to see what’s on.
Places to Eat
If there’s a large group of you, sometimes it can be difficult to find somewhere to accommodate all of you. We’ve tried and tested both of these pub restaurants and they get the thumbs up from us!
The Wheatsheaf Bar & Grill - Take a stroll across the road from us here at Elms Farm Cottages to find The Wheatsheaf. Open and serving delicious, local food 7 days a week - it’s a firm favorite with locals. They also have a great price range so it’s suitable for all budgets as well as all ages - plus it’s literally yards away when you want to return home to your cozy cottage.
If you’re looking for somewhere really traditional then Ye Olde Red Lion will be right up your street and just a short car journey away in Bicker. Children can dine from their ‘Little Cubs’ menu whilst adults can choose from either Tapas (we can personally recommend!) Or their traditional main menu.
Top Tip: We recommend booking for both of these establishments as even mid-week, they can get pretty booked up due to being so popular!
Great Attractions
Skegness Aquarium is another business which has recently invested heavily in their facilities, not only are you right next to the beach but you can easily kill plenty of time in the aquarium itself. Their new dinosaur area almost doubles the fun and there is a cafe and soft-play area inside. It has a lift for the upstairs area but the downstairs is all wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Once you’ve finished, stroll around Skegness to soak in the great British seaside!
Top Tip: You can even book a shark diving experience at Skegness Aquarium! Plus, sign up to their newsletter for 15% off your ticket.
If animal experiences are your ‘thing’ then we’d also recommend Lincolnshire Wildlife Park. Not too far from us in Friskney they have a huge number of animal feeding experiences and the animals there seems to be expanding by the day. They often run offers on their Facebook Page, sometimes even for free tickets, so it’s worth keeping an eye out if you intend to go.
